Background story:  I wrote this poem for my friend Dawn in 1990 after she lost a friend of hers to cancer.

Silent in the Night

Silent in the night, that was so dark.

Silent in the night, we were torn apart.

Silent in the night, your pain went away.

Silent in the night, I wished you were okay.

Silent in the night, the tears I couldn't hold.

Silent in the night, your soul was sold.

Silent in the night, a friend will never know.

Silent in the night, the good qualities you show.

Silent in the night, unfair as it can be.

Silent in the night, you were taken away from me.
